Music Theory II
10th, 11th, and 12th Grades
The purpose of this course is to augment the concepts introduced in Music Theory I. Techniques such as transposition, orchestration, and arranging are explored in depth. Original compositions are stressed. Altered and advanced chords, modulation, and larger forms are discussed and utilized. Modern harmonic techniques, including twelve-tone and serial techniques, are discussed. This is a highly individualized course. Students should be prepared to spend numerous hours outside of class on their projects. (*Prerequisite: Minimum of 80% in Music Theory I)
