9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th Grades
The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the basic musical notation and performance techniques associated with playing the guitar. The skills necessary to perform on the guitar are applied, rehearsed, and assessed in order to assist students in achieving success as musicians. Single note melodies as well as strummed chord accompaniments are studied. Additionally, students complete several projects throughout the course. The projects may include: a presentation on a specific popular guitar artist, a research paper on the history of the guitar, a report on how to purchase a guitar, and a test on how to restring a guitar.
